History

Historians locate the first traces of human life in Mallorca two thousand years before Christ.

As a proof of that, in some areas of the island, there are navetas and talaiots with a good conservation status, which are remains of an important Megalithic culture. You can find them in the Talaiotic settlements of Capocorb and Ses Païsses in the municipalities of Llucmajor/Cala Pi and Artà, respectively.

Apart from the traditional festivals, in Mallorca there are a considerable variety of periodic cultural events with different backgrounds. That's because of the heterogeneous culture of the island as a result of the people that has lived in Mallorca (Egyptians, Carthaginian, Roman, Muslims, Jewish and Catalans)

Government

Mallorca is part of the Balearic Islands, one of the 17 Spanish autonomous regions. It has its own parliament, president and a High Court of Justice.

Climate

In winter, temperatures are mild (the daily temperatures range from 10° to 15° C, while the night temperatures range from 5° to 10° C). In summer (July and August), temperatures are usually around 27°C, with a maximum of 30° - 32° C. They are perfect to swim in the sea.
