CONCERTS
Mallorca has a great number of concert halls. The climate, the history and the musicians that have visited Mallorca and have lived here turn the island into a charming place where you can listen to classical music all year long.
Whether you are outdoors facing away from extraordinary cliffs, in the courtyard of an old castle, in the cloister of a convent or in one of the many modern auditoriums and theatres, the scenery always enhances the music in Mallorca. This is a perfect place to enjoy it, since it has an incredible cultural offer.
Some outstanding music shows worth mentioning are: the big concerts held at the Auditorium, the opera season of the Teatre Principal, the classical music festivals in Valldemossa, Deià, Port de Sóller and Port de Pollença, as well as the Jazz Voyeur concerts or the Sa Pobla Jazz Festival, amongst many others.
THEATRE
Mallorca has around twenty theatres, both private and state owned. The main ones are located in Palma. These are the Auditorium and the Teatre Principal, where the main national plays, ballets and musicals are performed.
The Auditorium (private) is located in an enviable spot: in Passeig Marítim, right in front of the sea. Its shows are always interesting and famous. It was built in 1969 and has a singular architectural style. It has two rooms for plays, operas, concerts and other kind of shows. The Sala Magna is the biggest room and has two levels and a total capacity of 1700 people.
In Mallorca there are also many other theatres, such as the Alcúdia Auditorium, the Porreres Auditorium, the Sa Màniga Auditorium, the Llorenç Villalonga Museum, the Pere Ginard Museum, Sa Botiga des Buffons, the Manacor Theatre and the theatres of Artà, Capdepera, Lloseta, Muro and Santanyí.
CINEMA
Most cinemas in Palma have become multi-screen cinemas, where different films are simultaneously shown in independent screens.
The cinemas in Palma are: Augusta , Multicines Ocimax, Renoir, Metropolitan, Multicines Rivoli and Multicines Porto Pi. They screen the main films shown in Spain. Their opening hours are from 15:00 until 22:30, although they can vary. Films are usually dubbed into Spanish, except those that are shown at the Renoir cinema, which are in original version.
HORSE RACES
Harness races became one of the favourite shows on the island during the first half of the 20th
century. It is very easy to get excited with the horse races that take place at the Mallorcan hippodromes of Son Pardo and Manacor.
Given the extraordinary geographic location of the island and its combination of sea and mountain, a pleasant horse ride can turn the landscapes into real discoveries.
