Ship / Port of Palma
Ships are the second best choice to travel to Mallorca. They are the only way that allows you to move around the island with your own vehicle. The Port of Palma is closely connected with the ports of Barcelona, Valencia, Dénia and Ibiza, with daily departures in both directions. The average duration of the journey from Mallorca to the Peninsula is five hours.
Moreover, the port of the capital is used by the cruise companies as a port of call, while some shipping companies use it as their headquarters.
The Port of Palma is the largest and most important port in the Balearic Islands. It covers a coastal strip that goes from the Moll Vell (“Old Docks”), in front of the Cathedral, to the Dique del Oeste (“West Dike”).
It is used for goods transport, fishing boats, pleasure crafts, passenger transport and military vessels.
It has two active maritime terminals at Moll de Peraires, from where the cruise ships and also the regular ship lines that go to Barcelona, Valencia, Ibiza, Mahón or Dénia operate. There is a third maritime terminal at the Dique del Oeste for cruise ships.
On the other hand, the Port of Alcúdia, on the northeast coast of the island, communicates Mallorca with the island of Menorca. The journey takes approximately an hour and a half.
Taking both ports into consideration, about 800.000 passengers arrive in Mallorca every year.
The main national and provincial shipping companies (Acciona, Balearia, Iscomar, Interilles) connect regularly with Palma.
From Alcúdia and Cala Ratjada there are ferries and maritime connections with Menorca, both with Ciutadella and with Mahón.
