Craftwork
In Mallorca there is an important craft tradition. Handmade embroideries, olive tree Wood carving, wrought iron, siurells, hand blown glasswork, palm and raffia leaves articles, cultured pearls (Manacor), ceramics, clay, footwear, imitation jewellery creations… they are all extraordinary traditions.
In Mallorca it is very easy to buy hand blown glasswork, ceramics, embroideries, fabrics, footwear, leather, silver articles, imitation jewels, Majórica and Orquídea pearls, as well as the last trends in fashion and everything that artists from all over the world have introduced in the Mallorcan tradition.
Among all the local craftworks it is important to highlight the hand blown glass, which has been manufactured since the 14th century and has been enriched by the Venetian contributions from the 18th century. Hand blown glass is still cautiously elaborated using old methods. On the road to Valldemossa (Esporles) you can find Lafiore factory shop, while in Algaida you can find Gordiola. Both are very prestigious and produce many models. In both factories you can see the workers during the traditional hand blown glass process.
Mallorcan furniture has always been famous for its good finish. The nice wood turning and the typical fabrics “roba de llengües” (shades of green, blue and red) are important decorative elements of many country homes on the island.
