Port de Sóller is a must-see. Until the 13th century, under the Arab domination, this place was known as Port de Santa Catalina. It has traditionally been a maritime district on the northwest coast of Mallorca, stretching from the island of Sa Dragonera up to Cap Formentor. Since the 13th century this place has been used as a port to distribute raw materials to the Iberian Peninsula, southern France, Italy, northern Africa and Puerto Rico, amongst others.

For many years, Port de Sóller suffered continuous attacks carried out by Saracen bandits that used to plunder the entire Mallorcan coast.

For that reason, the town took defensive measures, such as the construction of watchtowers, which can still be found today, and the establishment of militias. The incursions are still in the memory of the locals, who every year remember them in a mock Saracen incursion that takes place within the framework of Es Firó festival, very famous across Mallorca.
