Cala Major
Cala Major is a residential strip, half urban, half tourist. It is located in the vicinity of Palma, just 6 km away from the city centre. Cala Major has the honour of including the Marivent Palace, the summer residence of the Spanish Royal Family.
Only 1 km away from the Palace there is the headquarters of the Miró Foundation, which houses permanent exhibitions, a library, an auditorium and Joan Mirós’ studio, which has been preserved just the way this universal artist left it. He lived and worked in Mallorca for many years.
Another important figure is the Korean composer Eaktai Ahn, who found in Cala Major a place in the sun where he decided to spend the last days of his life with his family. He chose Cala Major because, in the mid 20th century, this place was a peaceful residential area where the locals with financial resources and an international and exclusive jet set used to spend their summer.
This area has a beautiful and popular sand cove, which is a point of reference for all hotels in Cala Major. All year long, this beach attracts people of all kinds who go for the more cosmopolitan Mallorca. Completely sheltered from the northern wind, this cove is perfect and welcoming even in Autumn and Winter.
