Son Real Natural Reserve
The finca of Son Real is located on the coast of the municipality of Santa Margalida, between Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina. In 2002, it was purchased by the Government of the Balearic Islands in order to preserve its natural and ethnological values, as well as its archaeological sites.
It is a finca with a great environmental value. Together with the traditional agricultural activity, which is currently of a biological nature, in this finca autochthonous farm animals are also bred. Several extractive constructions and exploitations highlight the ethnological values that this finca has had since medieval times until today. Moreover, it is important to mention the important presence of archaeological remains from different cultures.
The natural beauty of this finca includes almost 2000 metres of littoral located on the wide virgin coastal area of this part of Mallorca.
The Government of the Balearic Islands has carried out improvement works in terms of its architectonical elements and its facilities, so that those who are interested in visiting this area can have a great time. The new facilities include a visitor service bureau with explanatory materials. The Sustainable Development Foundation of the Balearic Islands, which is under the authority of the Tourism Ministry, is responsible for the management of this state owned property.
