Sineu
The municipality of Sineu is located right in the middle of Mallorca. It has an area of 47.74 km² and a population of about 3000 inhabitants. It borders the municipalities of Costitx, Inca, Llubí, Maria de la Salut, Ariany, Petra, Sant Joan and Lloret de Vistalegre.
Sineu has very old origins (13th century) and maintains its rural and artisanal character. The annual fair of Sineu, which takes place on the first Sunday in May, was founded in 1319 and constitutes an important event among the Mallorcan countryside festivals.
This village is reminiscent of a royal and noble village, since James II and King Sancho established their residence there.
The old road that connects Sineu and Palma is the only road in Mallorca that communicates the capital with central Mallorca without having to cross any population centre until reaching the destination: Sineu.
Sineu’s architectural style is a reflection of typical medieval constructions, that is, simple and austere.
The economy of this area is mainly based on dry-land agriculture and cattle farming. Sineu is known in the agricultural and cattle farming world for its weekly market, but also for the production of almonds, carobs, vegetables (melon, garlic, tomato, pepper...) and wine.
