Llubí
Municipality located in Es Pla between the municipalities of Santa Margalidada, Maria de la Salut, Sineu, Inca, Sa Pobla and Muro. It has an area of 34.72 km² and a population of 2000 inhabitants.
The village of lubí is located near the ravine of Vinagrella, 73 metres above sea level. Its population centre is located between two hills, between which runs the ravine of Aumadrà, which flows into the Albufera.
In the 13th century, the name Llubí appeared for the first time as Aben-Lubi in the Royal Property Distribution Book.
From the 19th century onwards, its name stayed as Llubí, although for many years it was a hamlet under Muro’s jurisdiction.
The greatest part of this municipality is flat and not higher than 20 metres. The main agricultural product is the caper, which is sold worldwide. Llubi’s lands offer unique cultivation possibilities in Mallorca. Apart from the caper, Llubí mainly cultivates dry-land crops. Almond trees, carob trees and fig trees are the main fruit trees grown in this area.
Sa Llubinera is a cooperative that produces and sells bottled agricultural products to private individuals and restaurants, amongst others. Their products are local and traditionally made.
On August 1, Llubí celebrates a festival in honour of Sant Feliu, the patron saint of the village.
The market takes place every Tuesday at Plaça de la Carretera.
