Lloret de Vistalegre
Located in the district of Es Pla, Lloret de Vistalegre is a small agricultural village that gained independence from Sineu in 1924.
It is popularly known as Llorito, although in the 13th century it was known as Manresa due to King James I, who distributed the land among five knights from Manresa (Catalonia) who had accompanied him in the expedition.
The municipalities that border Lloret de Vistalegre are: Montuïri, Sineu, Sencelles, Algaida and Sant Joan.
As many other small Mallorcan villages, Lloret de Vistalegre was originally one of the Arab hamlets in this district until the conquest of the island in the 13th century.
In the 14th century, this municipality started to be settled and notoriously increased its population due to the establishment of the Convent of Nostra Senyora de Lloret.
In the 18th century, the village had around 500 inhabitants, while in the 20th century it had more than 1200.
After becoming independent of Sineu, the name Lloret de Vistalegre was introduced and the population started to fall, reaching the current number of 800 inhabitants.
This municipality has traditionally been based on agriculture and cattle farming.
Its patron saint is Saint Dominic, while its patroness is the Virgin of Lloret.
The most popular festival is “Es Sequer”, which takes place on the first Saturday in September. It is a gastronomical celebration that revolves around the fig fruit and its preservation.
