Ariany
The municipality of Ariany has a surface area of about 22.72 km² with 853 inhabitants in 1987.
Archaeological findings confirm that people lived in this area in Pretalaiotic times.
In the 13th century, there was a hamlet called Arian, which later in the 16th became subject to the Cotoner family.
The current village was developed around the manor house of S’Auberg, where peasant farmers used to pay the census. During the War of the Spanish Succession, the members of the Cotoner family became Marquisses of Ariany thanks to the support given to Philip V.
Ariany was a hamlet that belonged to Petra until the village obtained municipal independence in 1982. They had already tried to become independent in two previous occasions (1925 and 1949).
