Typical products
In Mallorca, the most usual thing to do is to buy an ensaïmada. Bakeries and patisseries wrap this typical product up so that you can take it home. The ensaïmada can have many sizes and contents. The smallest ones are single portions that are usually eaten at breakfast, as a snack or as a desert in particular celebrations or family reunions. After the one-portion format, sizes start to increase up to a maximum of 70 cm in diameter.
It is a pastry product that can have many fillings: crema catalana (“Catalan crema”), cabell d’àngel (“Angel’s hair”, made of pumpkin and sugar), cream, hazelnut or almond, chocolate and even sobrassada and fruits, such as apricots.
The ensaïmada is the most typical product in Mallorca, although not the only one. Other well-known products are the sobrassada and the excellent wines that come out of our wineries.
Other typical things include embroideries, cultured pearls, hand blown glass art, ceramics, imitation jewellery and a long etcetera that you can find both in the tourist areas, as well as in many shops on the island.
