Apart from visiting the centre of Palma, where most of the island’s activity is, Shopping Mallorca suggests that you visit other locations. There, you can enjoy a day of shopping combined with unique natural and urban areas and the character of charming villages.
With this in mind, we have chosen seven areas on the island that gather the municipalities, offering you a wide variety of shopping options.
1- Western coast
Municipalities:
Calvià and Andratx
Localities: Portals Nous, Palmanova, Magaluf, Santa Ponça, Peguera, Andratx and Port d’Andratx.
This famous holiday resort is known for the fact that its shops and services are adapted to the visitors’ needs that stay in the area. There, you can enjoy broad beachfront promenades and boulevards, where you can bask in all kind of shops, bars, restaurants and leisure areas with an incomparable atmosphere from May until October. In this area, shops are adapted to their clients’ profile: in Portals Nous and Port d’Andratx you will find first-class restaurants; Peguera and Sant Ponça are more family-driven; and in Magaluf there are sports brands and accessories of all kinds for a younger profile.
2- Northern coast
Municipalities:
Valldemossa, Deià and Sóller
Localities: Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller and Port de Sóller.
It is one of the most beautiful regions in Mallorca. It consists of different localities that integrate themselves into the idyllic landscape of Serra de Tramuntana and contain attractive streets with loads of history where you can enjoy a walk. They are population centres with a marked character due to the traditional architecture typical of this mountain range as well as its natural and cultural heritage. For that reason, over the last centuries, many distinguished visitors (artists, writers, etc.) either have visited the area or have lived in it. Some examples are Robert Graves, Chopin or Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria.
In terms of the shopping possibilities, here you can find premium establishments, which are mainly specialised in decoration and gifts, accessories, fashion and traditional foodstuffs.
It is very important to highlight the coca de patata (potato pie) from Valldemossa, the attractive gifts and decorative items typical of this area, and the oranges from Sóller. In Sóller you can take the tram to Port de Sóller, where you will find beachfront amazing shops
3- North-eastern coast
Municipalities:
Pollença, Alcúdia and Santa Margalida
Localities: Pollença, Port de Pollença, Alcúdia, Port d’Alcúdia and Can Picafort.
This northern area of the island combines the appeal of amazing urban centres, such as Pollença y Alcúdia, with their respective harbours, which have been turned into coastal population centres with fantastic shopping opportunities, thanks to which you can purchase innumerable products of all kinds.
Apart from the shopping point of view, this area is also famous for its beaches and coves, which belong to the Bay of Pollença and the Bay of Alcúdia, both with unique natural areas (S’Albufereta Natural Reserve and S’Albufera Natural Park).
We also recommend that you visit the cape and the beach of Formentor, as well as Cala Sant Vicenç. Can Picafort, on the other hand, is a tourist and residential area located in the middle of the Bay of Alcúdia. It has a pleasant beachfront promenade where you can pry into the windows of many suggestive shops.
4 Central area
Municipalities and localities: Inca, Sa Pobla, Muro and Sineu.
These population centres, located in the heart of the island, have not experienced an excessive tourist development. Therefore, a visit to their historical centres, especially Sa Pobla, Muro and Sineu, will allow you to discover the genuine character of these Mallorcan villages.
Inca, the comarca’s capital, has very attractive shopping areas where you can buy all kind of products, from foodstuffs to jewellery and watches, as well as decoration articles, fashion and accessories. It is very important to mention the first-class leather articles, such as handbags, jackets, wallets, belts and shoes.
Sa Pobla, Muro and Sineu have very attractive historical centres, especially Sineu, thanks to their winding and narrow streets with traditional architecture. In terms of shopping, this area’s activity is aimed at the locals, so you will find many kinds of establishments. Most of them are specialised in tailoring, decoration, footwear and accessories, as well as foodstuffs.
In this localities, especially in Inca, Sineu and Sa Pobla, you can taste the most genuine dishes of the Mallorcan gastronomy in the traditional “cellers”, which are old cellars transformed into restaurants.
5- Platja de Palma
Municipalities: Palma and Llucmajor
Platja de Palma and S’Arenal constitute one of the main holiday resorts in the Mediterranean. Its proximity to Palma, where most of the activity of the island is, as well as its proximity to the airport and the quality of its beaches are some of the features that turn this area into a very popular place every year.
The shopping options in this area are characterised by the exclusive service that they offer to all visitors. This area includes establishments specialised mainly in summer fashion, sport articles, accessories and souvenirs.
A lively pedestrian esplanade with cycle path invites you to walk along the beach in summer, as well as in spring and autumn.
In this esplanade you will find many bars and restaurants of all kinds, in which you can try any national and international dish.
6- Southern area
Municipalities: Llucmajor, Ses Salines, Campos, Santanyí and Felanitx
Localities: Llucmajor, Ses Salines, Sa Colònia de Sant Jordi, Santanyí, Cala d’Or, Porto Colom and Felanitx.
In this area it is important to distinguish between the interior localities, which house most of the population, and the coastal regions, which concentrate the tourist and holiday activity.
All this region includes natural areas of special interest, such as Es Salobrar de Campos, the beach of Es Trenc and the Mondragó Natural Park. Even if the beaches and coves located on the south coast are not the most beautiful ones, they are certainly the most natural and well preserved ones on the entire island.
The shopping options offered in the interior population centres are the same as those offered in the rest of villages and includes establishments of all kinds. In the holiday resorts, on the other hand, you can find shops specialised in fashion, accessories, sports articles and even souvenirs and gifts. This area is famous for having excellent food establishments where you can taste succulent seafood dishes, as well as delicious paellas.
7- Eastern area
Municipalities: Manacor, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, Son Servera, Artà and Capdepera.
Localities: Manacor, Porto Cristo, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, S’Illot, Sa Coma, Cala Millor, Son Servera, Artà, Capdepera and Cala Ratjada.
The eastern area of Mallorca has its own dynamism and independency, probably for being the part that is further from the metropolitan area of Palma. For that reason, these localities offer a vast range and lines of any kind of product, especially Manacor (the comarca’s capital) and Artà, which is a very dynamic municipality that concentrates an important cultural and commercial activity.
In the coastal localities you can also find all sorts of products and combine your shopping with leisure activities, such as having a walk, practicing water sports, going to the beach or enjoying the gastronomy. Moreover, in this area you can also visit several important archaeological sites.
Among the products typical of this area it is important to highlight the famous pearls of Manacor, which shape very attractive pieces that you can buy all over the island. Handmade products are also famous, especially those elaborated using the llata technique, which is based on the plaiting of the autochthonous palm leave. It is also important to mention the garballó (Chamaerops), a local plant used to weave many models of traditional baskets, which the locals carry every time the can, as well as to make shoes.
