Routes
Thanks to its mild climate, its reasonable dimensions, its uneven orography, its cultural past and its cosmopolitan present, Mallorca offers endless opportunities to discover the island and visit it in many different ways. No matter if you travel on foot, by bicycle, by motorbike, by car, by boat, on horseback or in any other means of transportation, there are plenty of routes designed according to your preferences and needs.
You can do short-distance trips on foot or by car with your family, as well as routes such as: the mountain cycling route, the hiking route, the natural parks route, the archaeological sites route, the craftworks route, the sanctuary and monastery route, the train route, the nautical route (which take you to the adjacent islands of Cabrera and Sa Dragonera), the horse riding route, the dry stone route, the olive tree route, the Serra de Tramuntana route, the mountain biking route and the climbing and the canyoning route, which is suitable for all levels, both for beginners and experienced climbers who want to do the most beautiful itineraries on the island.
We do not want to lengthen the list, since we do not want you to get tired too soon. But be certain that in Mallorca there all kind of routes and paths within your reach. All this enables you to enjoy Mallorca’s living nature.
However, if you have a more rather relaxed plan and you want to discover the island peacefully by car, we suggest three different itineraries to the tourist areas and villages in Mallorca (should Palma and its surroundings be the starting point).
Firstly, we suggest you a coastal trip that covers Palma, Andratx, Valldemossa, Sóller, Lluc, Pollença, Inca and Palma in one single stage. It is an interesting and beautiful journey that you can easily do in one day. You even have time to go shopping, have a walk, swim, have lunch in a good restaurant or have a coffee in a terrace in Port de Pollença. And if you have enough time, we recommend you to visit Formentor. It is worth going there.
You can also make a trip to the north and northeast area of the island. The route starts in Palma and continues towards Alcúdia, from where you can drive to Can Picafort, Capdepera and Cala Millor. You can go back to the city driving through the country, either taking the Manacor dual carriageway to Palma or taking the secondary road network. In any of the beautiful beaches on the north coast you will find great sand, fresh and transparent waters and all the additional services you need.
The third itinerary consists of a route to Migjorn, with starts from Palma and continues towards Platja de Palma, Cap Blanco, Sa Ràpita, Colònia de Sant Jordi, Ses Salines and Cala d’Or. Then, you go back to the city through the villages of Santanyí and Campos and take the Llucmajor motorway to Palma. It is a different but very interesting and beautiful route.
Any of these three car trips are doable in one day if you drive at legal speeds. They give you the great opportunity to relax and visit the cultural, tourist and gastronomic spots you find along the way.
If you have any question regarding specific information on the places you visit, please have a look at the following section: Discover towns and villages, Discover tourist areas, Activate yourself, Enjoy, Relish and Buy.
In all of them, and in other sections of this website, you will find additional information about the specific activities you wish to carry out in all the places you visit.
In case you are not satisfied, you can keep exploring the possibilities of learning more about the island of Mallorca.
On this Mallorca Island Council’s website, nine big routes or itineraries are proposed through an online guide that intends to help visitors discover the natural heritage of the island, as well as its traditions and festivals, the artistic prints that have influenced Mallorca in a special way, its varied remaining craftworks that in some cases have become world-wide famous, its history through the architectural styles developed by its successive inhabitants, etc.
