Swimming
One of the biggest advantages that an island has is that it has a huge permanent swimming pool, at least during six months of the year. The beaches and coast of the island of Mallorca constitute a perfect shuttle towards a secure, warm and clean Mediterranean Sea, which average summer temperature is 26 º C.
Apart from the good water temperatures, it is important to mention the beach safety, since 46 beaches have the European Blue Flag Certification, which means that they provide certified safety and lifesaving services.
Nevertheless, if what you really want is to go for a swim in the pool anytime of the year, Mallorca has around 20 indoor pools to offer. The most famous one is in Son Hugo, Palma, which was inaugurated in 1999. It was built on the occasion of the Universiade, an international multisport event for students. Son Hugo has 4 swimming pools. The two biggest ones are the competition pools, one of which is outdoors (50x25 metres). Moreover, the facilities include a children and a diving pool, which has modern wooden-floors and is accessible for disabled people. In Son Hugo, as in the great majority of public swimming pools, it is mandatory to wear flip-flops and a cap.
Apart from the public ones, most famous gyms on the island have one or several swimming pools. S’Aigua Blava, Megasport, Duet Sport are some examples. Moreover, almost all Mallorcan hotels have outdoor pools, and some of them even indoor heated ones.
But if you come to the island by boat, yacht clubs have also swimming pools available to members and temporary visitors.
