Football

If you want to combine football and holidays, Mallorca is a good place to go. Almost all towns and villages, even the smallest ones, have their own sand or grass pitch, so the chances of playing football are within everyone’s reach.
There is so much interest in football that some bars, restaurants and even night leisure facilities have their television sets connected almost permanently not only to the Spanish League, but also to the English and German national tournaments. In addition, they provide daily information about the schedules of the most important matches. In some tourist areas of Mallorca, bars have 3 or 4 televisions that simultaneously show different matches between the main European teams.
In Mallorca, football culture is of great importance. There are 210 officially registered clubs and a great number of associations and amateur centres with school teams and teams that consist of social associations or company employees.
Since football is so popular on the island, those who wish to practice this sport can choose between a great deal of opportunities and advantages. Private companies hire five-a-side football and regulation football fields by the hour, but if you want to play for free, there are also many football pitches in schools, villages and municipal sport centres.
The hire of the municipal football pitches by private individuals is subject to the federative club calendars.
In terms of official competitions, tournaments of all kinds take place all year long. The Spanish League (First and Second Division) is played in Palma between August and May on alternate weekends. RCD Mallorca’s first-division team is based in Palma and plays at the Iberostar Stadium. The Atlético Baleares Sports Club plays in the Second Division (B) at the Balear Stadium. For non-members, the current average ticket prices during the season range from 35 to 55 Euros.
