Sport
If you want to combine football and holidays, Mallorca is a good place to go. Almost all towns and villages, even the smallest ones, have their own sand or grass pitch, so the chances of playing football are within everyone’s reach.
Basketball is the second most important sport in Mallorca. Officially, the island has 97 indoor and outdoor basketball courts to practice this sport all year long. Almost all sports centres have their own court.
One of the biggest advantages that an island has is that it has a huge permanent swimming pool, at least during six months of the year.
Given that we have two world-famous figures (Carlos Moyà and Rafael Nadal), tennis has become a very popular sport, even though this sport has always had many followers in Mallorca. This sport is also very popular among tourists, who can go to tennis clubs, rental courts and sports centres to practice this sport.
People say that paddle tennis is a very gratifying sport, since it puts participants on the same level, rejuvenates middle-aged players and allows bringing players from different categories and ages face to face.
The 90 thousand cyclists that come to Mallorca every year between March and May always talk about the potential that this island has in terms of cycling. Most of them stay on the island for about a week between March and June.
Bicycles constitute an alternative means of transport to enjoy Palma and its coast. The city has a specific cyclist route that stretches along the bay (16 km).
The prestigious German magazine Golf Journal (March 2011) has described Mallorca as the second favourite golf destination for German players. Everything is a sign. The same magazine has also awarded three Mallorcan golf courses for their excellent quality: Alcanada, Arabella and Golf d’Andratx.
Any island cannot ignore the sea, and Mallorca is no exception. Most coastal and beach areas in Mallorca give you the opportunity to practice water sports and hire sailboards, catamarans, kayaks and water skies.
Mallorca is one of the biggest wind capitals in Europe. For over 30 years windsurfing experts have come to the island because of its perfect conditions for their sailboards. This is so much so the case that several windsurfing international competitions have been held here.
The cosmopolitism of the island can be noticed in many aspects of the daily life. One of them is, for example, the existence of a Cricket Friends Club, a minority sport on this island.
Much of the towns and cities of Mallorca has its own sports hall, equipped with swimming pools, tennis courts, football and handball, basketball courts, gyms. The offer is very wide and varied. Most are public sports facilities with specific access conditions.
