Hiking
This island has an amazing variety of landscapes. Such variety consists of mountains, coast and plains. Some paths go back to Arab times, while others, which were used by coal miners and connecting villages, run through the forest.
While hiking in Mallorca you can discover places of great beauty full of history and ancient legends: roads originally created by smugglers that lead to the remotest spots on the coast, coastal watchtowers built in the 16th century to protect the island from Turkish pirate attacks, marges (stone terrace walls) and infrastructures used for farming and collecting water that have lasted since Arab times, etc.
Most trails pass through the heart of the mountain range of Serra de Tramuntana, the most emblematic nature reserve on the island. These trails cross crags, cliffs and waterfalls, and follow gravel and goat paths.
The Serra, which was awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO, has several peaks over 1000m. The highest one is Puig Major at 1450 m. On the west, the orography is smoother and the highest point is at 561m.
Hiking gives you the opportunity to enjoy the landscape and exercise at the same time, with the incentive of being able to contemplate carefully the beauty we find along the way. The mild climate allows you to enjoy the routes that cross the valleys, mountains and plains, since the orographic diversity of Mallorca enables you to choose the itinerary that satisfies you the best. If you are looking for an adventure or want to discover the fantastic landscape of the island, there are plenty of options to choose from.
